InfoComm MEA Gets Down to Business in Dubai

InfoComm Middle East & Africa 2017 kicked off last week, offering attendees from across the region the opportunity to discover and harness game-changing ProAV innovations to give them a competitive edge in this continually expanding market.  WyreStorm partnered our fantastic new ME distributor, EVIG, on their InfoComm booth, with our own Middle East sales manager, Talha Abdul Wadood, giving the view from the show floor.

What can you tell us about the MEA market?

The total MENA market was estimated to be worth $4.63b in 2016 with the UAE market alone is set to reach $707m in 2018, up from $656m in 2016.  Major drivers for that growth include Expo 2020, the recent Saudi reforms and, of course, the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.  Having said that, the continuing geopolitical issues within several countries in the region, combined with lower oil prices, VAT implementation and cash flow issues will doubtless be felt in a slow first quarter of 2018, with the market expected regain momentum thereafter.

How was that reflected in InfoComm MEA this year?

As was the case with the biggest and best InfoComm India 2017 resulting from its market expansion, ICMEA builds in size and importance year on year– undoubtedly a reflection of the market’s steady growth. Although I noticed an improvement on previous MEA shows, some of that regional instability could certainly have stifled its growth this year.  However, certain markets, such as education, seemed less affected by this. We had interest in WyreStorm NetworkHD AV over IP from three major Universities, all of whom were aware of our previous award-winning NetworkHD science building installations in the University of Hertfordshire and London Metropolitan University in 2017.

How is WyreStorm helping the development the MEA market?

The market still has players pushing old technology because consultants still use old specifications. As such, educating consultants and system designers on the latest technologies and how they can be applied is incredibly important in adapting to the rapid and continual changes the market has experienced.  WyreStorm has carried out a number of trainings, seminars and meetings in 2017 to do just that; with an application-focused, multi-technology approach that builds confidence in our ability help customers adapt to change as we are at the forefront of that change ourselves.

What kinds of projects did visitors to the booth talk about?

A number of dealers and project managers I spoke to were involved in Corporate projects, such as control rooms and waiting lounges, Hospitality projects, such as restaurants and meeting rooms, or Retail, covering shopping malls and exhibitions.

As I said, Education is certainly a growth sector with an increasing number of universities in the region partnering with ivy league US or leading European institutions to create truly world class learning environments boasting the very latest facilities. Visitors to our booth spoke of investing heavily in individual class room connectivity with the latest technologies and cross-campus linking to offer the highest quality education experience for a new generation of students.

What WyreStorm technologies received most attention?

WyreStorm’s NetworkHD 400 Series 4K over IP was definitely the technology most people came to the booth to talk about.  Having just won Best Distribution product in the AV Awards and shortlisted for the InAVation awards due to be announced at ISE 2018, as well as being used in the recently completed London Metropolitan University Super Lab, it was great to see so much interest in the 400 Series.  In particular, a lot of visitors came to try out the free NetworkHD Touch iPad control app after hearing about how good the user interface was.

WyreStorm exhibited in association with EVIG this year - what can you tell us about your new Middle East distributor.

After announcing our distribution partnership with EVIG earlier in the year we were really looking forward to supporting them at the show; both in terms of branding and interaction with dealers in the region.  EVIG is a new player in the market and very much pure distribution, as oppose to the combined distribution/integration model more commonly seen in this market.  This singular focus on distribution, coupled with its complimenting brands, such Evoko, SMS, Avocor and Playipp, and the breadth of its dealer network was what makes EVIG such a great partner for WyreStorm and excites us about what the future holds in the Middle East.  Certainly, such is the incredible potential in the region, I expect InfoComm MEA 2018 to be even bigger and better.
