This is the million-dollar question. With 4K HDR now well in the mainstream, the justification for 8K is pretty tough. The real justification for 8K comes down to growing demand for size. People are buying bigger TVs and are happy to have bigger TVs in their homes. Where 15 years ago you might have had a 28-inch TV, now 55-inch is common; 65-inch and above is where most of the growth in TV sales is expected in the next 5 years.
You can currently get big 4K HDR TVs – up to about 85 inches – but it’s in these larger sizes that the 8K benefits will reside. As the screen gets bigger – and you stay sitting in the same place – more pixels means more visible detail.
But why do people want bigger TVs? It’s to increase the sense of immersion.
As detail increases, you can sit and marvel in front of a huge image that feels like it’s engulfing you. It’s here that big 8K TVs have a natural advantage because it increases the angles that light comes into your eyes. This, in turn can increase the separation between fore and background, creating more of a pop to visuals, and giving you a more immersive viewing experience.
THE 8K ASSOCIATION
The 8K Association (8KA) has been organized to educate, promote and evangelize on the many aspects of the rapidly evolving 8K ecosystem. From content creation and production to distribution and consumer consumption, our mission is to ensure the 8K ecosystem thrives as we help to accelerate industry-wide adoption of 8K content, products, and services.
The 8KA is composed of key technology companies in the consumer and professional 8K ecosystem. To accomplish our mission, the 8KA has established Work Groups to help provide information about the state of the 8K ecosystem to consumers, organizations, and standards development groups.

8K Products by WyreStorm
In lieu of contributing to the 8K ecosystem, WyreStorm has a small range of 8K products including two 8K60 switchers, four different sized 8K60 2.1 HDMI cables, and one 8K60 1:2 HDMI splitter. Two of the cables, the CAB-HAOC-FRL 10 and 15 meters are officially certified with the 8K Association, with more on the way shortly.

Connecting to PC graphics cards or high performance media playback systems, the DAOC is ready for content up to 8K/60 at 8-bit 4:4:4 plus support for HDR-10. The WyreStorm DAOC can extend super high-bandwidth video with up to 32 channels of PCM audio up to 10m/33ft using the very latest in active optical transmission technology.
ESSENTIALS 8K HDMI SPLITTER & SWITCHERS
Our Splitter and Switchers pack a massive punch. They’re both powerful plug-and-play 8K HDMI solutions that have the ability to either, split a single uncompressed 8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz signal to two displays, or switch up to 4 input signals to a single screen.
The most useful feature of these solutions are that the outputs can scale content down from either 8K>4K or 4K>1080p!
Furthermore, they’re compatible with DSC (Display Stream Compression) version 1.2a pass-through, an approved method of compression in accordance to the HDMI 2.1 specification, allowing up to a lossless 10K@120Hz signal to be transmitted.
